ÜBER FAUSTINO SANTOS
Ich wurde 1983 geboren und wuchs in Sao Paulo, Brasilien, auf. Vor der Fotografie habe ich auf Leinwand gemalt und gezeichnet. Dann schrieb ich mich für einen Journalismuskurs ein, in dem ich Fotografie, Kunstgeschichte und Kunstästhetik lernte.
Als ich im April 2008 nach Dublin in Irland zog, widmete ich mich der Porträtfotografie. Dort lernte ich, wie ich meine Filmfotos entwickeln und optische Abzüge von ihnen machen kann.
Meine Fotografien wurden in der "The Digital Darkroom Gallery" in Neuseeland (2010), der "Oisin Gallery" in Irland (2011/2012) und der "Art-Frisör Gallery" in Deutschland (2014) ausgestellt. Meine Arbeiten wurden auch in "The Irish Mail on Sunday" (2010), Oxfam Clothes Catalog (2012) und "100-Nude" (Zine Edition 2017) veröffentlicht.
Meine Fotografien wurden in der "The Digital Darkroom Gallery" in Neuseeland (2010), der "Oisin Gallery" in Irland (2011/2012) und der "Art-Frisör Gallery" in Deutschland (2014) ausgestellt. Meine Arbeiten wurden auch in "The Irish Mail on Sunday" (2010), Oxfam Clothes Catalog (2012) und "100-Nude" (Zine Edition 2017) veröffentlicht.
Ende 2012 zog ich in die Nähe von Freiburg, in Süddeutschland, weil ich in der Nähe der Natur (Schwarzwald) leben wollte.
Nach dem Umzug nach Deutschland hatte ich Schwierigkeiten, aber ich wurde inspiriert, Lochkameras zu bauen und Projekte damit zu experimentieren. Ich entwickelte meinen visuellen Stil und mein Konzept mit Lochblendenporträts (ein Interview mit mir über meine Lochblendenporträts können Sie hier lesen).

2015 ging mir das Geld aus, also zog ich nach Hamburg, wo ich meine Lochkamera-Projekte und die Straßenfotografie fortsetzte. Ich traf Models, Musiker und Künstler wie David Nesselhauf, Hiyori und Graeme Currie (von KOSMODRONE), Dennis Rux (von YeahYeahYeah-Studios) und andere.
In all den Jahren haben mich Gemälde und Skulpturen beeinflusst, die ich schon als Junge bewundert habe, vor allem die Beleuchtung von Barroc, die Szenen, die Körper, ihre Komposition und ihr Ausdruck. Ich kann Stunden damit verbringen, sie zu betrachten und in ihnen zu reisen. Das will ich auch mit meinen Fotografien erreichen.
Mein Interesse an der Kunst ist auch ein Interesse an den Menschen und der Gesellschaft. Angesichts der COVID-19-Pandemie und der sozialen Isolation verbringe ich von 2020 bis 2022 meine Zeit damit, über Psychologie, Neuro- und Verhaltensbiologie und politische Philosophie zu lesen. Ich möchte die Menschen verstehen, mit ihnen interagieren und mit ihnen in Kontakt treten. Mit der Fotografie kann ich das tun. Aus dieser Erfahrung schöpfe ich meine Kunst.

I was born in 1983 and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Before photography I was doing painting on canvas and drawings. Then I enrolled in a Journalism course where I learned photography, history of art and aesthetics of art.
I became dedicated to portrait photography when I moved to Dublin, in Ireland, in April of 2008. There I learned how to develop my film photographs and how to make optic prints with them.
My photographs were exhibited at "The Digital Darkroom Gallery" in New Zealand (2010), "Oisin Gallery" in Ireland (2011/2012), "Art-Frisör Gallery" in Germany (2014). My work was also published at "The Irish Mail on Sunday" (2010), Oxfam Clothes Catalog (2012) and "100-Nude" (Zine Edition 2017).
At the end of 2012 I moved near Freiburg, in South Germany, because I wanted to live near nature (Black Forest).
I struggled after moving to Germany but I became inspired to build pinhole cameras and experiment projects with them. I developed my visual style and concept with pinhole portraits (You can read an interview with me about my pinhole portraits here).
In 2015 I ran out of money, so I moved to Hamburg where I continued with my pinhole photography projects and street photography. I met models, musicians and artists such as David Nesselhauf, Hiyori and Graeme Currie (from KOSMODRONE), Dennis Rux (from YeahYeahYeah-Studios) and others. Hamburg is where I live now.
In all these years I have been influenced by paintings and sculptures that I admired since I was a boy, especially barroc lighting, the scenes, the bodies, their composition and expression. I can spend hours looking at them and travel in them. I wanted to obtain the same with my photographs.
My interest in art is also an interest in people and society. With COVID-19 pandemic and social isolation, from 2020 to 2022, I spend my time reading about psychology, neuro and behavioral biology, and political philosophy. I want to understand people, interact with people and connect with people. Photography allows me to do that. From this experience I create my art.
